What's my Number?
A new campaign has begun designed we are told to reduce a consumers energy spend on electricity by encouraging them to change to the cheapest retailer, “What’s my number”.
The Electricity Authority who are managing this initiative believe that a consumer, can by changing retailers, make considerable savings and through market forces reduce the overall price of electricity.
It would appear that the consumer wins in that they pay less for their electricity, however it will not solve the obvious problems around the amount of electricity used now and future generation of same.
Surely it is time for consumers to really think about saving money by using less electricity, thereby saving money as well. It could be argued that if a commodity such as electricity costs less, then a consumer will use more given how important it is in enabling households to operate.
We should be investing more now in energy efficient products and services as a saving for the future. If we put our focus upon this then we can save power, save money as well as easing the pressure on the environment.
There are electricians, EcoSmart electricians, trained by ECANZ, who can provide advice and assistance to both householders and businesses on the best and simplest ways to reduce their electricity consumption, thereby reducing their spend on energy.
Cost effective solutions are often basic practical interventions that lead to considerable savings. Money would surely be better spent on future proofing our homes.
