Challenge 2009 Industrial Finalists

Evan Roberts

Evan stared with ETCO in January 2006. He is 24 and has spent the majority of his time with Massey University Facilities Maintenance team but has also worked with Hickson Electrical gaining domestic and commercial experience. In his spare time he plays a lot of sport and also keeps his hand in with graphic design. Evan has recently got married and bought his own house in Palmerston North which he is currently renovating.

Cole Jackson

Cole is an ETCO employed apprentice and has been with current host Dalton Electrical since he started in January 2006. Working for an Industrial contracting company, Cole has been involved with panel wiring, machine building, industrial controls and general wiring. He has also written PLC programs for various applications. Outside of work he plays prop for his local rugby side. This is his second time making the finals. Cole is 22 years old.

Hoani Davis

Hoani joined the team at Alf Downs in February 2005 straight from school. Initially it was general domestic work but he quickly moved over to the industrial side. He has been involved in new plant installations, factory maintenance and plant breakdowns. Hoani has experience with variable speed drives, motor control and plant automation. Hoani is 21, married to Joanna and has three children. His interests outside of work are snowboarding and his young family.

Shaun McInerney

At nineteen years old Shaun is the youngest finalist for 2009. He is employed by Bremca Southland and began his apprenticeship in September 2006. He is very experienced in building and commissioning many types of switchboards – from dairy to distribution, with controls, VSD’s and PLC’s. He has also had a go at wiring the odd house. Shaun’s main interest is playing guitar, with ‘blues’ being the preferred style.

Daniel Berry

Daniel is twenty years old, and began his apprenticeship in July 2007. Daniel’s host company has been Dalton Electrical from the start of his apprenticeship where he has been involved in predominately industrial work - panel wiring, machine building, industrial controls and general wiring. Daniel played a number of team sports at school but currently is not involved in any sporting activity, preferring other distractions.

William Kok

William joined the Greaves Electrical staff as a transferred apprentice in September 2007. He previously worked for two different employers in Auckland before moving to Hawera. He has recently completed his apprenticeship and is now studying level 5 Electrical Engineering. Greaves have currently seconded him to the Fonterra Dairy processing site where he is working on plant maintenance tasks. William is 22 years old and a devoted family man.
